EndoTool® is an FDA-cleared, HIPAA-compliant stand-alone-software that runs on any Windows 2000 or newer PC. EndoTool® is designed to help care givers in critical care settings calculate insulin dosage to control blood sugar. A Physician or Nurse manually inputs the variables and manually administers the insulin. EndoTool® requires competent human intervention to use.
EndoTool® is needed because high blood sugar (or glucose) in a patient whose body is under stress leaves the patient vulnerable to hospital-acquired infections, volume depletion, poor tissue healing, and prolonged hospital stay. This is a too common complication to vulnerable patients in intensive, critical, and urgent care units. Infections in this setting increase risk of death, increase recovery time, and increase time and costs in intensive care.
EndoTool® is a patent pending software algorithm that has a sophisticated feedback controller for blood sugar control for stressed, critically ill patients in intensive care settings using IV insulin to control the blood sugar.
EndoTool® is easily administered by the hospital staff, requiring less than two minutes to initiate the control program and less than one minute after each blood sugar determination in order to recommend the next insulin dose and next scheduled blood sugar determination. The computer software keeps record of all entry and insulin orders, to produce a medical record of the blood sugar values and insulin doses but also an “order set” for that patient’s record. In addition, EndoTool® performs the nurse or hospital staff’s secretarial duties for the medical record.
EndoTool® algorithms are dynamic models that receive response data from known insulin dosage to learn the unique response of each patient in the patient’s current stressed state. By calculating variables specific to the patient, within 3 or 6 cycles of dose and response inputs, the output of EndoTool® provides dose recommendations that rapidly lower and maintain the patient’s blood sugar in a range of 70 to 130 mg/dL. The program has multiple with safety nets to prevent the patient from slipping into a hypoglycemic state.
EndoTool® provides the following benefits to control blood sugar in intensive care, critical care and urgent care:
- Facilitates prompt control of blood glucose levels in the most stressed clinical settings.
- No mathematical calculations required of the nursing staff.
- Improve quality of patient care.
- Reduce time patient is on insulin drip.
- Reduce 24-hour calls to attending Physicians or Endocrinologist.
- Reduces hospital acquired infection rates.
- Reduce expense of critical care.
- Reduce morbidity and mortality.
- Reduce infection and acute renal failure.
- Improve documentation (daily QA reports).
- Smooth transition from IV insulin to SQ insulin protocol.
- Intelligently adapt to individual patient response to treatment.
- Increase hospital quality rating.
- Reduce cost of healthcare.
